The chimney is usually the most overlooked part of the home, yet is one of the most essential. The fact that chimneys typically do their job pretty well, even when neglected, contributes to this idea. However, they perform many vital functions and should be adequately maintained.

Chimney fires are among the more common types of fire incidents reported in the United States. The term “chimney fire” encompasses any fire incident which is related by cause or proximity to a chimney. The best method for avoiding a chimney fire is prevention.

We recommend that you follow these safety tips to keep your home safe:

Keep fireplaces and woodstoves clean

  • Have your chimney inspected annually
  • Clear the area surrounding your fireplace of flammable material
  • Use a metal mesh screen with fireplaces
  • Keep air inlets on wood stoves open
  • Use fire-resistant materials

Safely burn fuels

  • Don't use flammable liquids
  • Use well-seasoned hardwood
  • Burn small fires that create less smoke
  • Never burn cardboard boxes, trash or debris in your fireplace
  • Never leave a fire unattended

Protect the outside of the home

  • Stack firewood outside your house at least 30 feet away
  • Keep roof clear of leaves and other debris
  • Cover the chimney with a spark arrestor
  • Remove branches hanging above the chimney

Protect the inside of your home

  • Install smoke alarms throughout your home and maintain them regularly

I called this morning to schedule a cleaning when my stove started up so badly it wouldn't burn, expecting to see a technician next week some time, but when they found out that my wood stove was my primary source of heat, they said they'd be out in half an hour. My stove is running like new, and the two technicians made zero mess and were so friendly and polite. And to top it all off, they were great with my dogs and two-year-old son.

Prompt, thorough and efficient! Starting with the first email I received (within 30 minutes of my email request being sent) all the way to Chris the technician taking care of inspecting and cleaning - top notch guys! You run your business like ALL business's should be - Thank you!

Our experience with Emberstone has been fantastic. They are prompt and efficient. The initial cleaning was done extremely well and when we had a small problem shortly thereafter, they returned and fixed the problem right away. The office personnel are kind and courteous. Patrick did an excellent job with the initial cleaning and Tom was so efficient in fixing our problem later on. I recommend Emberstone wholeheartedly.
